Usagi Bash!

Usagi Bash!

We were so happy to throw our very first event! What better way to celebrate our favorite show growing up than to throw a bash in honor of the title character (and her daughter…spoilers)!!

First off, we are eternally grateful to Ash from Ash Snap’em Photography for taking these pics! She is not only a great friend but an amazing photographer and if you ever need a local Houston/DFW area photographer we highly recommend her! We also want to thank Paul from Viet Nom Noms who let us have the event at his restaurant, seriously yummy food!

We had bingo, coloring pages, key chain making station, compact cookies and tons of giveaways!! We had alot of fun and met so many new people who enjoy all things magical.

If you didn’t get to make the event, we want to have more meet ups! What fandoms are you into? Animal Crossing, Cardcaptor, comic books, video games and 3DS…?

Oh, and if you wanted a goody bag, we have an extra to giveaway! More details to come next week!!!!

Usagi Birthday Bash

Usagi Birthday Bash

When we started Mind Speaks back in 2010, we had no idea what we wanted to do. We just knew we liked crafts; we liked sharing crafts with each other and hoped the blog would be a nice way to communicate while we were living in different cities.?? Here we are in 2018, we all live in Houston and have only done a few events together. We wanted to meet new people, make new friends and share the love of fandoms and crafts with local people. What better way than to host a meet up, give away some prizes and make new friends? Better yet, throw a birthday bash for one of our first fandoms growing up: Usagi aka Sailor Moon!

Sailor Moon means a lot to my sisters and I. When we were young, this cartoon with 5 amazingly strong scouts with different personalities was so eye opening. Approximately 20 years later we are still watching the show, still collecting memorabilia and still wishing we could transform into senshi! I’m sure every magical kid from the 90’s would practice their hand movements screaming “Make-up!”

About the birthday bash: it will be hosted at Viet Nom Noms in Bellaire/Houston, Texas this Saturday at 4pm. This restaurant serves quick service bahn mi, vermicelli and rice bowls. They also have vegan options! They just started to serve boba milk teas as well!!

What will we do there? When you arrive, we have a sign in sheet. Sign up to our newsletter and you’ll be automatically entered into some raffles. We will also have some locket cookies, cork keychain craft set up, bingo and coloring sheets for everyone!

10 guests will have a chance to grab a goodie bag. Inside the bag we have:

-Mind-Speaks Button
-2 Sailor Moon Post Cards
-2 Sailor Moon Buttons
-Sailor Scout charm
-2 Sticker Sheets
-Sailor Scout Bow Clip
-Sailor Scout Bow necklace
-Scout temporary tattoo

Didn’t get a bag? No worries, we will be raffling an extra bag after the event. So keep in touch via Instagram and Facebook for a chance to win a bag filled with goodies!
This meet up is to connect with other fans of cute things.

Workshop: Bullet Journal

Workshop: Bullet Journal

Last week, there was a Bullet Journal workshop. The second one I have attended and it was a lot fun to meet up with people that enjoy stationery/journals/planners as much as I do.

These workshops take place in an independent store, Brazos Bookstore. They set up tables, sample paper and pens and other bujo accessories and then you just sit down, listen, socialize and plan out your bujo.  They even do raffles and give away free journals so you can get started right away. It’s really generous and a perfect way to get people excited. They are still figuring out what exactly is involved in these workshops so it is a work in progress, mostly discussions about different ways you can organize your bujos. However,a lot of the attendees have already started theirs and so it’s a great way to just get inspired. These events also let you test out items they have in the store, pens, paper, stencils, ect.

I’m looking forward to the next workshop, and hope to venture out to other workshops as well. I have my eyes on a hand letting one so I’ll keep you updated.

That’s all for now, until next time!
